Effect of metasomatism on the electrical resistivity of the lithospheric mantle – An integrated research using magnetotelluric sounding and xenoliths beneath the Nógrád-Gömör Volcanic Field

Long period magnetotelluric (MT) data were collected at 14 locations along a ~50 km long NNW-SSE profile in the Nógrád-Gömör Volcanic Field (NGVF), which is one of five mantle xenolith bearing Neogene alkali basalt Carpathian-Pannonian region. As result, low resistivity anomaly (<10 ?m) was observed approximately 30–60 depth beneath central part NGVF, indicating presence conductive body Moho. This same area where upper xenoliths with wehrlitic modal composition from six quarries. The wehrlites formed as result metasomatism involving peridotite wall rock and mafic melt. spatial coincidence geophysical petrographic-geochemical alteration suggests their probable relationship. To test this assumption, we estimated electrical wehrlites. outcome reveals lower for (~132 compared to non-metasomatized lherzolites (~273 localities. However, it still higher than values acquired MT soundings. Thus, further modelling implemented order possible role models revealed that even ~2–3 vol.% interconnected melt enough below 1 ?m glass phase found may be evidence later solidified All these suggest melts present small amounts cooling NGVF. intensive upwelling NGVF resulting wehrlitized portion resistivity, well extensive flows on surface, can explained by deep deformation zones, provide excellent migration pathways through entire lithosphere.
